Another afternoon another day. Looking down at the sheer amount of posts I make, the frequency of it, and not to mention the content, I sometimes wonder to myself how I always have so much to say that if I were to put it in a word document it would just stretch over a page long. It’s kind of amusing and interesting at the same time, as I know a lot of guys for that matter don’t really keep a journal like this like I do. Many can’t even find as much to write of past 2 sentences but I always find that I can do much better. Maybe because I’m more in touch with my psychology as well as emotions.
A lot of people usually give me this weird stare when I mention my email address, you know hamsteyr, as well as other things since this is my alias as well. I suppose what people don’t understand is my affliction with hamsters maybe. Ever since I was younger, I always had a thing for hamsters, they were cute and cuddly, but mainly cute. I grew to love them so much that I eventually wrapped my nickname around the word hamster as well.
On a behavioural front however, thinking about it I guess I am in the end quite similar to a hamster as well. I don’t have the best attention span, I eat a lot of wholemeal and grain, and maybe down to the community site as well. Hamsters are known to be animals that love being in a group. When you get yourself a pet hamster, you generally don’t just get a hamster, because sooner or later it’ll die of loneliness. In that sense, hamsters always work in pairs of two’s don’t they. A similarity to myself that I find interesting.
Talking about hamsters, I miss my hamster as well. Feelings from yesterday haven’t really subsided well, but maybe on that hand I’m glad they didn’t as well. I wouldn’t feel that much at ease if my feelings for her could be turned on and off just like that. Me missing her is something that truly makes me feel alive, and yes, I’d rather feel the pain of missing her than nothing at all.
A contributing factor perhaps that made me miss her even till now was the fact that I had a dream about her today as well. Too fuzzy to remember, but again all I know was that I was happy and smiling. Only difference with this dream (although I can’t recall it well) was that it felt real. The settings, the placement, the emotions, it all felt all too real.
From my dreams, I could remember looking at her, feeling happy yet sad at the same time in my heart. It came from the fact that she was right there infront of my and I could see her and hear her, but I think sad because I couldn’t do anything else. A mixed bag of emotions.
Looking at myself now, I obviously realise that I’m a very highly emotional guy as well. Not maybe to the point of break down emotional cry, but more of someone who considers his emotions very heavily. I suppose coming down to it I don’t suppose that there are quite as many guys like myself who are in touch with their emotional side. For starters society has a habit of labeling people like us as sissies or whatever anyway. I really couldn’t care less. I enjoy thinking about things, I enjoy exploring the possibilities in my head, I enjoy looking and working up plans all the time.
I do wonder a little bit though. Surely by now she would’ve more than known that I’m an emotional guy and am probably the most emotional guy she’ll ever know who expresses it. Irony being that of course she’s emotional herself, but I wonder if it has anything to do with us being hamsters hahaha. Anyway, down to it, I wonder if she disliked me being an emotional guy. Sometimes I do wonder to myself if I should attempt to be more… Normal.
But then again, why would I ever do that. The people who love me should love me for who I am and not who I am not correct? This is part of the whole package that is me, and trust me that while it may be a pain in the neck at times, this side of me allows me to be a sweet romantic, and well, my girl would be treated well at all times, and I do try to surprise her with little things while I can.
Come on, which other guy out there makes HAND MADE CARDS. Not a lot I tell you. How many other guys would bother coating bloody chocolate strawberries for their girl for valentines day! Making a box especially for them! Indeed I ask you how many guys really take their anniversaries seriously, or let’s put it this way, let alone take them seriously, how many guys remember their anniversary dates! I remember mine clearly.
January 16th 2009. The time when we first became a couple. I drove her in my little viva to Taman Megah where I was born, and parked my car at the side of the street while we took a slow stroll in the park there. The soil was a bit wet from the rain, and because of that she sort of got quite a bit of mud on her blue platform-ish shoes (the ones that have a wooden base). She nearly slipped at one point as well, and I reached out to grab her hand to try and hold on to her. We sat on a stone bench nearby because it was dry there, and at that point, I felt… Extremely nervous. I had absolutely no idea what to do. It was the first time I was ever in this situation, I was befuddled. I remember her sitting on my right, and she was so cute and beautiful that day, as the trees above her played with the lights shining on her face.
If it made it any worse, I remember having to deal with massive size ants that day, and worrying about them crawling from the bench up on my body and biting me. Ahaha, we really didn’t spend long on those benches and it was then that we went back to the car. I didn’t want to go anywhere else but to get the feeling off my chest. On that day itself I said it to her face in person, “Tze Ni, I really like you”. I could tell she was embarrassed and nervous herself. She was having difficulties looking at me, while smiling to herself as well. I kept looking at her and waited for an answer. I remember then that she said that she really liked me too.
One of the moments in my life where I felt as if time stopped for me and that everything just fell into place. At that point in time, I mustered all the amount of courage I had in myself and I said to her… “Can I kiss you?”. My blood was pumping, my heart was racing, I didn’t know what to expect, and I didn’t know what to feel. After a few seconds, she opened her lips softly and her faint sweet voice said to me, “yes”.
A turn of developments I would have never been able to see myself experiencing ever. Never did I in my 22 years of living at the time would I have imagined things to work out this way. I would have never imagined myself in this situation, let alone in this situation with this girl I met in PDL a few years before, whom I felt was borderline obnoxious and just plain difficult to deal with. She was loud, she went against everything that I said, she constantly tried to correct me, and she disliked it when I ignored her. Yet there I was, in the car with her, heart racing and blood pumping, only able to look forward, trying to keep my composure. It was then that it hit me.
My god, I’m in love with her.
I started to count in my head to try and behave as naturally as I could. I didn’t want myself to sit there silently and have the moment pass. I told myself, okay, on the count of three, you’ll lean over and kiss her. As I started the countdown timer in my head, my palms were starting to get sweaty. I felt the heat of my blood coursing through my veins. I tried to count down as normally and as I could silently in my head, trying to get the timings between the intervals right.
The number struck 3 in my head. Gathering myself, I leaned over and kissed her on the lips. My mind went blank. I couldn’t keep track of how long my lips touched hers. For the second time that day, but for the first time ever, my world around me disappeared as I closed my eyes. There was no sound to be heard, there was nothing to be seen. My senses had shut themselves down but only one emotion seemed to thrive in these conditions. The flame in my heart grew larger at that very moment.
I pulled myself away from her lips and looked into her eyes. They told me of happiness, joy and also surprise. The reality of what I had done had just hit me and I started to panic profusely. I panicked because for the first time in my life, nothing made sense anymore. I have always been a thinker, I have always been someone who relied on his brain to feed him feedback on the situation, to tell him what to do next. The brain had shut itself of, and I panicked.
I looked forward and ahead of me as I put both my hands on the steering wheel. I was shaking profusely. My arms did not keep themselves still. they were shaking and jittering like crazy. My heart was pumping insanely quick and my cheeks were flushed with blood as I probably turned a little bit red then. I remember jumping around in my seat a little, breathing a lot more loudly and audibly to try and control myself.
She looked at me, with a face that mixed together worry and happiness and said, “are you okay?”. All I could say to her at that point in time was,
“I DON’T KNOW! I CAN’T THINK, I FEEL SO JITTERY, I’M LIKE HAVING A PANIC ATTACK! OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!”
“Calm down! Relax! Hahahaha”, she said with a slight chuckle in her voice.
It took me a few minutes to actually get to an operational level. I calmed myself down but I just had to reaffirm what had just happened. I leaned over and kissed her again, this time for longer. It was almost magical. Everytime I looked at her, the more beautiful she got to me. I kept looking at her until I decided that we should get moving, and looked forward, to which then to our surprise, an old man living in one of the adjacent houses came out and was staring at us.
Still jittering all the way through and smiling to myself, it was then that I drove us to 1 Utama where we were to meet her brother for dinner in Sushi Zanmai… Not before I had to find a parking space in the parking lot there anyway… and that much is history.
Really, If I were to be asked to write a whole story about this, I probably could. Right down to the ribbon in her hair that day, I can remember quite well the details in the events that unfolded…
So much is a story that I don’t want it to end here. I want to be able to continue writing this story and see that it hits a happy ending, so that come time again that I’m asked to maybe tell it to my children, I’d be able to do it with all the happiness and glee in my heart.
I will continue building up my life’s story. After all, the prologue was great, the build up was even better, but now the climax is close at hand, the peak of the story, and I should buckle up for the ride.
This is Hsin Yang, and this is my short little story of life and love, dreams and hopes and the future and the past. :)
